Biography

“The story of my professional journey and how I got here is not what most people would expect. My love for interior decorating started in junior high art class in New York, where I was born and raised. My first 3-D rendering of a living room started the bug that I was never able to shake. I have always been artistic and passionate about painting and decorating, but my journey went down a very different professional path. I graduated from the University of Arizona during the late 90s, and as everyone knows this was the boom of the computer industry. Since interior design was not offered at the university, I decided to go into computer engineering. After graduation I worked 20 years at IBM, however during that time I kept up on my creative passions. I would redesign my own home every year, help others decorate their homes and continued to learn new painting techniques.

With the amazing support of my husband, Darren, I decided it was time for me to decorate professionally. I took the leap to go down my dream path and started my own business. I started with eDesign (virtual interior design) and soon realized that my passion was working with other designers. I decided to get Certified as a Design Virtual Assistant and 3D Sketchup Modeler. I have had the opportunity to work some amazing designers, and I love helping them manage their projects and create beautiful 3D renders and concept boards. I feel so lucky to have a job that entails the 2 things I love the most: Design and Software!”

What made you decide to become a Designer Virtual Assistant?

“As an eDesigner and virtual stager, I founded my own business with a passion for creating captivating 3D renders and concept boards. However, working collaboratively with a brilliant designer on a past project ignited a newfound passion for assisting fellow designers with managing their projects. Combining my background in software engineering with my love for design, I am now able to leverage these skills to provide fellow designers with comprehensive design support. My transition to a DVA role has given me the flexibility to pursue my passions while also providing the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients.

What are your top 3 traits your clients love?

“My exceptional organizational skills
My aptitude for comprehending the intricacies of each project
My capacity to provide prompt and precise deliverables “

What is your X-factor a.k.a. the one thing that differentiates you from other VA’s?

Leveraging my background in edesign and project management, I bring a distinct skillset to the table: the ability to develop highly efficient and streamlined processes customized for each client’s business. By implementing these optimized workflows, I not only ensure seamless operations but also provide valuable business consultation. I go beyond the surface level by offering insightful guidance on various avenues that my clients can explore to enhance their own businesses, empowering them to unlock new opportunities for growth and success.

What is your signature style and/or the styles that you love working with?

I will work with any style, but my 2 favorite are Transitional and Mid-Century Modern

What is your key strength as a virtual assistant?

My key strength is my ability to provide efficient and reliable support to my clients. With excellent organizational and multitasking skills, I excel in managing multiple tasks and ensuring deadlines are met. Additionally, my strong communication skills enable me to effectively collaborate with clients, understand their needs, and provide them with personalized assistance. I am also technologically savvy, quickly adapting to new software and tools, which allows me to learn new ways to create captivating 3D renders.

Give us a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes when you’re putting together project for a designer (i.e. your process).

“1. Initial Consulation – I always use Zoom because I want to get to know the designer one on one.
2. Setup Client Portal – this is where all the project information and deliverables are stored.
3. Collection of Project Information – I have created comprehensive forms tailored to the project’s needs. This process ensures I have all the essential information required to commence work on the project.
4. Final deliverables and invoicing”

What are 3 Fun facts about you ?!?!?!

  1. I am a complete computer nerd. I worked at IBM as a software engineer for 20 years before starting my own business. I always wanted to go into interior design, but it wasn’t an option at my college. When I first started my interior decorating business I thought I would love to meet clients in person on a regular basis, but then I missed being behind a computer all day. Once I started diving into interior design software I found my happy place again. As a design virtual assistant, I am now able to do the 2 things I love the most: design and software!

  2. In my spare time I paint artwork for my home and friends. My medium is acrylic and watercolor. I had so much wall space in my new home so I painted several pieces to display. People always ask where I bought them and I laugh and say “”at the Bett’s residence””!

  3. I love going to model homes and drag my husband to them on the weekends (he secretly loves going). I get inspired by the room designs, not only for my own designs, but I will also take pictures of artwork that I want to recreate on my own.
